“It’s scary to let go, but so liberating to let the painting lead the way and see what happens.”

Biography

Courtney Derrick lives and works in Salt Lake City, Utah. After receiving a BFA in 2002 from the University of Utah in painting and drawing, Courtney worked extensively in graphic design before becoming a professional painter in 2012. She studied under some great artists including John Erickson, Paul Davis and Randall Lake.

Courtney’s work can be found in many personal and corporate collections, including The Grand America, Pallet restaurant and multiple Legacy House locations. Her work has been seen at the Springville museum of art, 15th Street Gallery, Bountiful Davis Art Center, Slusser Gallery, Little Bench Art Center in San Diego and Ramble Gallery. She has also been featured in Utah Style & Design, Cityhome Collective, Salt Lake Magazine and Fibonacci Fine Arts magazine.

“I hope each viewer has a unique experience with my paintings. I want it to evoke some feeling or nostalgia from their own life. I start each painting with a plan, but it always changes course and evolves organically. It’s scary to let go, but so liberating to let the painting lead the way and see what happens. I love the adventure!”

Courtney approaches life and art with a infectiously jovial attitude. She's happy, and it shows in her work. Those that have visited Pallet are well aware of her talents...every last painting in the place is hers.

I was introduced to Courtney after I had seen an incredible portrait she had painted of Porter Rockwell. I soon after purchased a few of her other landscape pieces for our home and my office. I was fortunate to have her paint two of my great grandfathers portraits. To say I was pleased is an understatement. Courtney is a very gifted artist and has been amazing to work with.
